Amber K. Stott is the founding Executive Director of the nonprofit Food Literacy Center in Sacramento, California. She's also a freelance food writer and public speaker. She's been named “Food Revolution Hero” by Jamie Oliver Food Foundation, Food Tank’s 20 Innovators Protecting the Planet and a TEDx Sacramento Changemaker Fellow. She blogs and develops recipes for Food Literacy Center and at Awake at the Whisk. She also writes for Edible Sacramento magazine, Comstock’s Magazine and Inside Publications. Amber founded the nonprofit Food Literacy Center in July 2011 to educate children about how to cook, fruit and vegetable appreciation and identification, nutrition, food waste, where food comes from, and more. The nonprofit is considered a leader in developing best practice in the field of food literacy. The results are successful: after class, 70% of children in the program ask their parents for foods like broccoli and celery, and over 90% say healthy food tastes good. The organization also writes food literacy curriculum and trains community members as food literacy teachers. Amber is a steering committee member of America’s Farm-to-Fork. She holds a Master’s degree in African Studies and Women’s Studies and speaks Danish and Zulu.
