Merry Christmas 2013

♫ O Tannenbaum, O Tannenbaum … ♪

Dear readers,

Another year has come and gone. Once again our families gather to enjoy each other’s presence and to celebrate the season of peace, hope, and joy. Thank you for keeping us company this year, as we’ve experimented in the kitchen, doing our best to create meals worthy of our efforts and yours.

One milestone managed to slip by me this year. Sometime this summer, as my toes were digging in an ocean sprayed beach, Simply Recipes turned 10. Ten years of anything seems like a long time, but this? It’s just as much of an adventure now as it ever was. Every day I’m inspired by what I’m learning. Thank you for reading. Thank you for trying the recipes, and for your advice and encouragement.

Have a wonderful holiday, wherever you are. Bless you today, and every day of your lives.

Elise & family

Merry Christmas and Congratulations. Thank you for all you do. You’ve become my go to reference to learn things to try for my family and many have become favorites. Used your prime rib instructions just last night for Christmas Dinner. I’ve also been exposed to other blogs via yours and thank you for that. With much appreciation and looking forward to many more recipes.

  11. Charlene

Merry Christmas to you and your family! Thanks for all the wonderful recipes you’ve shared. Love the Romanesco tree. How appropriate for a food blog.

  12. Lyne

Happy Holidays & congratulations on your 10 year Anniversary! Your site and recipes are a joy to read and cook! All the best to you and yours and looking forward to another wonderful year of recipes from you.

  13. Kathy

Thank you for providing such a treasure trove of recipes, both simple and sublime! and I love the stories about your father and family. Some days, the budget recipes are my favorite when I just want to make something quick with what’s on hand, like our mom’s did. I also love the way you often have 2 or 3 versions of the same dish- the “cheffie” way, and the “leftover” way. It’s how things go in our house, too.

10 years is a long time-quite an accomplishment!

    Here’s to many more.

  14. Sharlene

Thank you for sharing your family recipes with me. They have become our family’s recipes to. You have helped me feed my son and my husband — I am ever so thankful.

  15. Karen

Congratulations and thanks Elise — your blog is a true treasure! We love your family recipes and they have become our own. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours.

  16. Ruth

    Dear Elise,

What a sweet and lovely lady you are! Thanks your Christmas wishes, and back at ya. I misted up reading your greetings. All the best to you in 2014.

Ten years already….wow! I don’t know how many of those years I’ve been on your mailing list, but I do know that I’ve become accustomed to your presence in my life and always look forward to receiving your latest mailing.
I often have a thought like, “I want to make Elise’s Eggnog Pound Cake,” or where did I put that recipe for Broccoli Rabe with Caramelized Onions that I copied down from Elise?” And just this past week, I heard Hank Shaw on an NPR cooking show and immediately said, “Hey, that’s Elise’s guy!” In short, you have become a definite part of my cooking consciousness.

  17. Bedriye

    Dear Elise,
Thank you so much for all the wonderful recipes throughout the year. I try most of them.
Merry Christmas and a healthy, wealthy, successful, peaceful, prosperous, joyous and a HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all. All the best <3

PS: I love your Christmas Card. How did you make it ?

Elise: Discussing the “politics of food” has always been a curious notion to me, but, through your website, I’ve certainly come to understand how food can be a catalyst for so much goodwill and community spirit. Through the years, and through your nurturing, heartfelt posts, I’ve come to feel I know you as a trusted friend. I can’t say I’ve ever gone to recipes for dishes I’ve never tried as blindly and confidently as I have yours, and I’m happy to report I’ve never been let down. Happiest of holidays, and a very prosperous New Year to you and yours.

  19. Titalina

Elise – your site is the first place I look when I need a recipe. I have so many favorites! Thanks for 10 years of wonderful recipes and stories. Best wishes for the new year and lots of good recipes to come. You’re the best!

  30. Kathy

Thank you for the romanesco recipe, I made that for our Christmas dinner and I really enjoyed it. I had a romanesco shipped to me via our organic monthly produce delivery right after your recipe posting. What a fun little veggie, and yes, it does look like a Christmas tree, as you so very timely have one decorated on the cover of this post. I have to say that romanesco is hard to find in the grocery stores, most grocers around here had never heard of it.

  31. Judy

Merry Christmas and a very Happy New year, Elise. I wish you and your family the best of what life has to offer. I’d like to thank you for your wonderful stories and of course, your delicious and unique recipes that have often made me look very clever and creative to my friends and family. :-)
Congratulations on ten years of Simply Recipes! I hope you’ll continue to spoil us for another ten years!
And Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all the readers here. Wishing you joy, peace and prosperity in the year ahead.

  32. Rachel

  33. DSX

Finding a fascinating recipe here has been one our families daily joys, it’s always a topic of conversation and exploration. So glad you take the time to do it, and hope you continue to find pleasure in it as your readers do into the new year.

  39. Liz

  40. Big fan

I steer as many people as I can to your site. So many people think they don’t know how to cook, but as you make it perfectly clear most cooking revolves around a few basic techniques. A cast iron skillet, a cutting board, and a chef’s knife and you are on your way.

Anyway, what I admire and appreciate is that you are encouraging people to get into the kitchen and also to get around the dinner table…making food about family and friends. Although, dinner for one is its own special treat.

    Love the site.

  41. cornel

Thanks for every thing you do on this site, its great and very handy and yummy.
I wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR and hope that every thing you wish to fufill and lot’s of love.
