I remove the skin from the apples then chop them up in food processor and layer this on top of the peanut butter -which makes it edible and easily digested for even the youngest kids -love my PB& A sandwiches :-)
My four year old son just watched the video and made the sandwich. HE LOVES IT!! Plus he asked if Aldie could come over and play. :)
Ah, that’s so cute! ~Elise
Have made this a dozen times since the recipes been posted. Tastes great and kinda healthy!!
Atta girl Aldey! What a great video Elise. I think you have a future intern on your hands! :)
Ya think? Hope to do some more of these later this summer. Hope to see you too Cat! ~Elise
my favorite is PB and onion. It is yummy! Altho I have to admit I put onions in just about everything. My husband says the only thing I haven’t put onions in is my ice cream, and he is sure one day that I will try that too.
Made these with the kids today. One loved the them whilst the other wasn’t too sure. Thanks for the recipe.
We shared this with our son, he loved this recipe. Thank you for sharing a recipe that our son can make.
My grandfather used to fix me apple butter and peanut butter toasted sandwiches. He couldn’t cook at all, but that sure was tasty
Way to go Alden!!! My husband and I love apples and peanut butter. We haven’t put them in in a sandwich before though. We usually just dip apple slices in the peanut butter. We’ll have to try this.
I just made it at the request of my daughter who has been sick. She gets your email updates. Alden’s recipe gets five stars from us.
Glad she liked it and we hope she gets better soon! ~Elise
I love peanut butter apple and banana sandwiches all rolled into one! Yum!
I am not a fan of peanut butter (sacrilege I know) but I love apples on sandwiches. They add just the right amount of crunch and sweet/tang to it. My favorite is an ABC sandwich, Apple, bacon and cheese. This is a grilled sandwich so the cheese gets all melty and delicious. I usually use a provolone but really any cheese will work. With the sweetness of the apple and the smokiness of the bacon. So Soo Good!
Someone has probably already said this – but I also love peanut butter and banana sandwiches!
How funny, I’m eating this very sandwich right now. I like to make mine with a toasted orowheat thin but fresh whole wheat bread is tasty too.
Great video! I thought I had tried PB with everything, but am going to compile a list from the comments section. I had never thought to try peaches, and that has got to be great. And nobody posted this: PB with pineapple. This is a good sandwich, made better with some Duke’s mayo on the other slice of bread…
Alden is a precious young cook. Wait till she gets some more experience! Move over Elise. She’ll have your job before you know it.
I have never heard of an Apple Peanut Butter sandwich before.
When I was young, my mother made us Banana Peanut Butter sandwiches. Mash an over ripe banana (the riper the better without being so black and squishy that it is rotten), mix in the peanut butter (chunky or smooth) and spread a thick layer on a slice of bread. Top with another slice of bread. Yum yum!
When I was grown, my mother’s friend introduced us to another kind of peanut butter sandwich – Peanut Butter and Dill Pickle with Miracle Whip. Spread one slice of bread with the Miracle Whip and another with peanut butter. Cover one slice with dill pickle slices (or Vlasic Kosher Dill Pickle Stackers) and top with the other slice of bread. Sounds terrible, but wait till you taste it.
It’s hard to mess up a peanut butter sandwich, so I’m definitely trying the Apple Peanut Butter sandwich, too.
A star is born!! I have never had the pleasure of this combo either. I shall try it with granny smith apples cause that’s what on my counter. Toasted good wheat bread and creamy PB……………..sounds good to me, thanks.
Whodathunkit? Just ENJOYED my first PB&A sandwich–so good! Thanks for the yummy idea, Alden and Elise; definitely won’t be rotated out soon. :)
Well… I never would have thought this would be as good as it says, but it sure is! It’s fresh, crisp, and oh so good! Way to go:)
Great video!! Here’s one I bet you say yuck to unless you try it. Peanut Butter, Crisp Sweet Pickles (Homemade is best) and Mayo. I got this from my father and have eaten it all my life and I am 61. The last guy I shared this with laughed at me until I got him to try a bite. The last time I saw his wife she said he had eaten every sweet pickle in the house! Enjoy..I dare you.
My son is 19 and we have eaten apples and peanut butter since he was 2. I have also made them into sandwiches, but I like adding a slice of American Cheese as well. It is so yummy and contains foods from almost all the food groups. If you like trying new things… try peanut butter and raisin sandwiches. They are real good too (don’t be shy with the raisins).
I have a peanut butter and banana sandwich almost everyday! I use high fiber, low fat bread and it fills me up for hours! I will have to add this great variation to my repertoire! Alden looks like a super chef in the making, just following in your footsteps, how fun!
My life skill students students love to make grilled cheese sandwiches. We like grilled PB&J too, now we will try them with apple.
I’m eating this right now, except I subbed the bread for a multigrain english muffin…yummy! I like banana on my sandwich too :)
Cute post! I don’t think that the classic PB&J can possibly be beat, but the crunchy apple is a good idea. My kids like PB, raisins and honey.
My mom eats this version:peanut buttermayonnaisepickle relish
I swear it is true, she loves it and claims that it was not uncommon in the 50s and 60s. Honestly just seeing those 3 condiments adjacent to each other in the refrigerator grosses me out now!
Loved the video- She is too cute. Her video inspired my 3 year to make her own sandwich and to try something new-which is an extremely hard feat!
I make these, but I spread a thin layer of Peanut Butter on each slice of bread w/ a layer of thins sliced apple on top. Try it with a little drizzle of honey on the Peanut Butter too is great!
I LOVE pb&a sandwiches! Though, I have to admit I prefer pb & banana. During all three of my pregnancies they were a STAPLE snack for me!
This is genius! I eat apples with peanut butter all the time but never thought to put it on some bread. I bet it would be good in the toaster oven for a few minutes too.
Love apples & peanut butter (and banana as well)! I have to say, though, I would insist on PB on BOTH slices of bread. ;)
PB and G is good, too..use red grapes sliced in half, instead of the apple.
I’ve done the sectioned, cored apple with honey roasted peanut butter and sunflower seeds for years. Used to eat pb and mayo sandwiches as a kid. But now a days my favorite guilty breakfast is peanut butter and bacon on a toasted whole wheat bagel. Thomas brand preferred.
I love this idea. Maybe a sprinkle of cinnamon on the apples to jazz it up…
Try PB with ham, or on hot dogs instead of mustard, too.
The PB with fried egg on English muffin sounds good, too.
PB & bananas!! yummy
My Dad enthusiastically swears that peanut butter and garlic bread is one of his favorite things. He and I usually agree on food, but I cannot bring myself to try it.
What a cutie Alden is. I’m with you Elise, I’ve never had PB&A before but will try it now. Hubby is a PB addict & loves to make PB&HD sandwiches–that’s peanut butter & hot dog sandwiches. He boils the hot dogs until hot, cuts them in half lengthwise & then lays them on top of peanut buttered bread. Then he adds his secret ingredient which is a generous sprinkling of cayenne, then tops it with another slice of peanut buttered bread. I use to laugh at him until I finally broke down & tried it–surprisingly yummy–think Thai-style PB&HD sandwich!
Very good video, Alden. You spoke clearly, without hesitation and not too fast. Maybe you should start your own food blog, with video aids, (maybe as a school project? Maybe with Elise’s help?) to instruct people around your age about how to prepare healthier foods for themselves. Mom can’t always take the time to do it, so it’d be helpful for everyone in any family. Make it your voice online!. I love peanut butter and apple together. The combination has almost a caramel-apple flavor. So delicious.
In our house, we’ve made these with almond butter (superior to PB IMO for both flavor and nutrition) and cinnamon-dusted apple slices.
The cinnamon dusting isn’t just for flavor, either. I discovered that dusting apple slices with ground cinnamon eliminated my son’s objection to “brown” apple (while I love to prepare my son’s lunch for school, I’ll admit I am too lazy to make a lemon juice bath for the apple slices to prevent them from browning).
The best pb sandwich ever is pb, mustard, and bacon on whole wheat toast. I eat one every morning.
YUM! One of my favorites with peanut butter is BLT with PB instead of mayonaisse. I will definitely be trying this one though.
Alden rocks! Did she take the lovely photo as well?
Thanks! I took the photo, with my iPhone camera. Silly me forgot my card reader for my big camera on this trip. Not bad for a camera phone, eh? ~Elise
My kids liked bananas and sometimes a crisp dill pickle to get a reaction from Mom. Please don’t ask about fried bananas!
I do a version of a peanut butter and apple sandwich that isn’t as healthy but is very, very tasty. It includes 2 slices of whole wheat bread smeared with peanut butter, thinly sliced apples layered over the peanut butter, a few slices of crisp bacon, a drizzle of honey over all and topped with alfalfa sprouts. I know it sounds weird but the combination of flavors is terrific!
Alden, I love this! Great recipe! And fantastic movie! Will you make some more recipe movies?
I have consulted young Alden about the possibility of making more movies, and she’s all for it, yay! ~Elise
I love PB & A, and Apple and cheese sandwiches. Peanut butter and DILL PICKLES also make a surprisingly excellent sandwich! The juicy tang of the pickle with the sweet/saltiness of the peanut butter are a whole new addicting flavor.
Always been a fan of PB and A, but for me the best is PB and P (Peach) during the height of the peach season. I don’t think anything beats that.
One morning I discovered apple slices and peanut butter toast by accident. They have since become an occasional breakfast for me. The taste is vaguely reminiscent of caramel apples.
I never thought of eating PB & A as a sandwich. I’ve often had it on rice cakes though. One of my favorite sandwiches is PB & banana. I’ll have to remember some of the suggestions in the comments!
Sounds a great combo, will try it. My favourite peanut butter sarni is with lettuce, tomato and cucumber. Unusual but tasty and healthy.
The best breakfast sandwich in the world is pb & fried egg on toasted english muffin. The peanut butter melts on the egg and into the crevices of the muffin, while providing a perfect foil of sweet saltiness. Sounds gross. Tastes divine.
Love this kid. I, too, like a bit of honey on this sandwich. Raisins are a fun addition, also.
It’s time to “kick it up a notch” by grilling the sandwich. You can do it two ways (1) butter both sides and brown each side in a pan (2) Dip both sides in a mixture of one egg beat with about 1/2 cup milk (like French Toast but don’t dip it too long). Brown in butter on each side.
Nice work, Alden! Would you recommend a Fuji for this? ;^) A star is born!
I would add a schmear of peanut butter to the 2nd slice of bread, to help the sandwich stick together. Also good with almond butter. Also good with dried pears and with roasted sweet potato slices!
Three cheers for Aldie! PB&A is one of my favorite on-the-go breakfasts. Also great with ripe pears or, my favorite, fresh peach slices in season.
My husband made these for years for our daughters. You made us smile. Thinly sliced apples are the key!
I never thought to put it on a sandwich, but now I will! I grew up eating peanut butter smeared onto apple slices, but now I have another veg sandwich in my arsenal.
Great job, Alden!!
I make mine just the same way you do, with one exception – I always cut my sandwich on the diagonal : ) I like this so much more than PB&J (too gummy! too sweet!). The apple gives the sandwich just the right crunch to offset the peanut butter. This is the sandwich I take with me on a hike because it’s so filling and healthy.
Elise, I can’t believe you’ve been missing out all these years!
PB&A, a classic! And this may sound crazy, but cheese and peanut butter is really delicious too. I like extra old cheddar, but any kind will do i’d say. Also, try brie cheese and apple with a sprinkle of cinnamon for another tasty sandwich!
I think mayonnaise on the second slice of bread would be great with this, too. A friend taught me this a bazillion years ago and MADE me try it. PB, mayo, and lettuce… YUM. I’m thinking replacing the lettuce with crunchy apples would be awesome!
Try an apple and cheese sandwich, to switch things up ^_^
Hey-hey, love me some PB&A sandwiches, but my favorite apple sammie is T&A! (Tuna & Apple)
Love the video – she will be a star! I’ve eaten PB &A for breakfast since I was in school (waaay back in the day). I put the peanut butter on both sides of bread and also sprinkle a bit of wheat germ on top of peanut butter before I add apples. Love this!
I like PB&R too – raisins sprinkled thickly over peanut butter make a nice sweet, chewy topping.
Great video! She cuts her apples the same way I do, – fourths and get rid of the core. Works for tomatoes, as well. :)
Peanut butter mixed with honey is a great dip for apples, too.
Great video! Good on Alden — I’d be happy to try any of her other specialties.
(I love PB&A sandwiches so much. PB goes with almost any fruit, actually — PB & pear is another good one. Yum!)
An excellent video — Miss Alden has grace and presence, and a clearer and more pleasant voice than half the instructional video posters on the web today. I would like to seek her expert opinion on adding a sprinkle of apple pie spice blend, mixed with a bit of brown sugar, over the apples.
Excellent video – you’re right – the next Food Network star in the making!Banana butter and almond butter sandwich is good too!
Love this! I’ve only ever tried the PB&J and PB&Banana sandwich variety. This sounds lovely! Cute video too.
Adorable, and I couldn’t agree more! If you add a drizzle of honey and a little sprinkle of cinnamon, your apple & PB will be even better…and PB & strawberries is great too.
