Welcome to our new look!

Hi everyone!

For the last several months (seems like years) we’ve been quietly working behind the scenes to update the design of Simply Recipes to make it easier to use on different screen sizes and tablets. We are delighted to present our new “semi” responsive design that changes shape depending on whether you are viewing the site on a desktop computer or on a tablet. (You can see this in action if you are on a computer; just resize your browser window and watch how various elements rearrange on the page.)

We’ve increased the font size making it easier to read, and packed a lot more into the category lists, making it easier to find recipes based on main ingredient, course, type, or cuisine. You’ll also find a handy widget in the right column called “What’s in Season”. Click on that to find a listing of every recipe we’ve ever published in the current month.

If you are viewing the new design from a smart phone, you’ll notice that it still isn’t perfectly optimized for phones. That’s what we’ll be working on for Phase 2. However, if you point your phone’s browser to http://www.simplyrecipes.com/m/ you’ll find our mobile optimized site, which is built just for phones.

As with any major change to the site, there will invariably be things that don’t work the way they should. Please take a look around, and “kick the tires”. Let’s us know what you like, what you wish would work better, and if anything seems wacky or out of sorts. There will be bugs, and we want to fix them! But first we have to find them. So any help you can give us in that department is greatly appreciated.

Finally, please join me in thanking Jesse Gardner, our head of technology and website development, for creating such a beautiful new design! He is the genius behind the scenes, working on the site’s bells and whistles to make them sing.

Looks absolutely gorgeous! I vastly prefer it – very simple and clean and tidy and suits the site well. The trend with many sites lately seems to be to cram as much as possible onto a page, making it busy and cluttered. I’m so glad you guys went in this direction instead. Nice work, team!

Looks beautiful! All your hard work has paid off. I look forward to many more years of cooking with you! Thank you for everything!!

Love the new design…much easier to read on iPad…thank you!

One question – I don’t see the ‘Save Recipe’ button so I may save to my recipe box on your site. Is it in a different I’m not seeing or is there a different button?

To many more years of cooking!

Elise you deserve every accolade you receive…………..yours is the very first food blog I ever started to follow. Thank you for making our food journey more enjoyable and tasty I might add. Continued success to you Elise!!

Beautiful new design- well done. I love being able to search for recipes based on ingredients. Sometimes this helps me cook just because I’m able to make dinner based on what I already have stocked in my pantry OR it really helps to be able to cook based on what’s in season. So if I have a lots of zucchini or like now, peaches on in abundance, I want to create recipes based on what’s available and cheap. Thanks!!

Nice refresh of the site. Though your content is what brings me back again and again, it does help to have a site that responds, seemingly, intuitively to different screen sizes. Kudos!

Great job, Elise and Jesse~! Love the new look. Can’t imagine how much work it took to make it happen. Hopefully there won’t be too many kinks to work out before you’re on to Phase 2.

The “What’s in Season?” filter is a great addition, and the new font is appreciated! Thank you, xoxo

What happened to the updates from other food blogs? And I loved being able to search other blogs too…I hope I’m just not seeing it. Those features have made your site my number one food related website that I check daily!

    • Elise

Hi Erin, we’ll get that fixed shortly. Thanks for pointing out that it was missing!

      • Mary McCreadie

Oh thanks for catching that, I was just going to ask about it. Love that feature!

It looks fantastic! Clear, easy to read, tons of recipes to choose from when I do a search… you’ve improved on what was already my #1 food site! Thanks, and great job.

Wonderful work, Elise …your site was the first to be on my ‘favourite’ list, and it is my ‘go-to’ site still to this day. …part of my inspiration to launch my own food blog this summer. Love the new look!

Hello from Malta (in the Mediterranean Sea) Elise!! I am so pleased I found your site, I have tried a few things already such as George’s Rye bread recipe and your eggplant and zucchini gratin which is waiting to go into the oven :-) your honey and mustard chicken was tried a few days ago (delicious) and I also made an apple upside down cake and today the buttery apple torte! I’m loving it, oh yes by the way I had some plums today and didn’t know what to do so I tried your plum compote, it’s still hot in the jars and the colour and texture look great! That will be great with the pork fillet I am making today for our village festa of Santa Maria. Thank you for the new site design aswell now I can cook happily with my ipad propped up on the work top :-))) friends and family are enjoying your recipes too now.

  24. Lisa Swager

Hey, this is nice! I like the features and the simplicity. It’s easy on the eyes.

  25. Kathleen Bates

Having poor eyesight your new format is so very much easier for me.

  26. Evie Lieb

I didn’t think Simply Recipes could get any better, but you and Jesse proved me wrong! Elise, you are my inspiration. Merci mille fois!!!

  27. Kathleen

I’m making my favorite green bean salad (with basil, balsamic vinegar and parmesan) right now for a Sunday get-together this afternoon. My first time to see your new look, and it looks great on my new tablet. Thanks!

  28. Jen

They are not bugs, they are “undocumented features”. New design looks fantastic!

  29. Veena

It is really very thoughtful of you to work to make your useful site more adaptable , your recipes are very user friendly ,thank you for all this.

  30. Alanna

Thank you, thank you for the larger font!

  31. Michelle

This is awesome. A lot of times I find it easier to use my iPad rather than my laptop in the kitchen, where I’ll be cooking up your recipes. I also look up recipes on my phone while at the grocery store for meal planning. This site is not only well-written, but well-organized despite the encyclopedic scope and your attention to detail in all areas (even the less glamorous technical details) is what sets this blog apart and keeps me coming back again and again. It’s easy to take all the things you do well for granted until I visit other sites. Thanks for investing in readability and user design as well as consistent quality content.

  32. Karen

Many Thanks, Elise and Jesse! I absolutely love the new look! The elegant simplicity suits the name and lovely photos found on this blog. I really appreciate all the hard work and thought that went into this. It’s so much easier for me to read.
