Are you ready to DIY all the creepy and crawly things for your Halloween party? I AM! As much as I love planning parties and bringing people together to celebrate this Spooktacular time of year, I realize that it can be a little overwhelming to DIY something when you don’t even know what you’re going to have for dinner … Ya feel me?
HOW EASY ARE THESE TREATS, REALLY?
DIY means Do-It-Yourself! Put on your DIY gloves, turn on some ghoultasic music, and let your creative juices start to flow!
If you’re hesitant, I’m here to tell you… HAVE NO FEAR. Seriously. I’ve taken five of our recipes that are easy to make on their own and given them slightly frightful makeovers that aren’t at all complicated or over-the-top.
Try to make one and see how it goes, or if you’re feeling really brave, make all of them!
1. Lofthouse-Style Spooky Sugar Cookies
Do you remember our pillowy Soft Frosted Sugar Cookies from a few months back? This is by far the easiest recipe on which to put a little Halloween twist. Follow the directions in the linked recipe. Make the frosting, but instead of coloring all of it, separate it into 3 or 4 different containers (depending on how many colors you want) and color each. May I suggest purple, green, orange, and black?!
After your frosting is tinted, frost the cookies and top with Halloween sprinkles!
2. Pumpkin Patch Deviled Eggs
Our recipe for Buffalo and Blue Cheese Deviled Eggs sets the perfect stage to be spookified. All I did here was add in more hot sauce to bump up the orange color, scoop the filling into the eggs with a small cookie scoop (or a tablespoon!), and stuck a chive in the center of the filling.
Sticking the chive toward the middle of the filling (versus flat against the egg white) is what really makes these look like pumpkins. You can make the stems go straight up and down, or you could stick them in crooked for a cute, whimsical look.
3. Chocolate Covered Strawberry Ghosts
Dipping strawberries is one of my favorite ways to get fancy schmancy. This literally takes 10 minutes to do!
For a Halloween twist, dip the strawberries in melted white chocolate and while the chocolate is still wet, stick two mini chocolate chips flat-side down onto the strawberry for the eyes, and use a regular chocolate chip placed flat-side down for the mouth. Don’t worry if your chocolate is a little messy. That’s what makes these ghosts so boo-tiful!
4. Eyeballs and Brains Tortellini Soup
Giving our Tomato Tortellini Soup a Halloween makeover was so much fun! When looking through recipes, I was immediately drawn to the tortellini in this soup because they looked like little brains nestled in the red tomato soup. It was all just too good to pass up!
This soup only takes 1-pot so it’s super simple. Once the soup is finished, place some sour cream into a Ziplock baggie, snip off the corner, and pipe a blob into the middle of the tortellini that’s sitting on top. Cut a few pimiento stuffed green olives in half and place them with the pimiento side face up! Easy peasy.
5. Frankenstein Spinach & Artichoke Dip
Every party needs a dip, and this dip is extra special because of BACON. Yum. First take our spinach artichoke dip and stick blue corn tortilla chips with the pointy side down into the top of the dip to make Frankenstein’s hair.
With the same technique used in the tortellini soup, pipe a couple sour cream blobs near the top of the dish and then add a couple of sliced olives onto the blobs for the eyes. Slice some olives lengthwise and use a fatter slice for the nose and bolts on the side of his head.
Thinly slice a few more olives and place in a horizontal line for his mouth. Where the olives meet, place another sliced olive vertical to make the stitching! That’s it! You’re done!
