Best Snack Subscription Boxes

Best Overall: Urth Box

Urth Box

Urth Box

Price: $39.99
Customizable: No
Type of Diets: Vegan, gluten-free, diet, classic

Why We Chose It: Urth Box meets most of our snack-related criteria, but what really sets it apart is the number of full-sized products included for the price.

What We Like
Includes four different box options
Free shipping
Full-sizes products

What We Don’t Like
Free shipping only in the U.S.
Unable to mix and match boxes (no vegan and gluten-free combos)

Urth Box is the overall winner for our best snack subscription box because each one shipped contains full-sized goodies and there are a variety of diets to choose from when selecting your plan. Plans are sized from mini, which includes seven snacks, up to large (27+ snacks). The large box is the most expensive package at $49.99, but it's still about the average price of other subscription boxes we reviewed. The website features images of past boxes along with reviews from customers who laud the emphasis on the organic and all-natural products they received.

Shipping to the continental U.S. is free. And while they do ship to Canada, customers north of the border will incur additional shipping fees. You can purchase boxes for yourself or order a gift subscription box, available in one-, three-, six-, or 12-month increments. Subscriptions can be canceled at any time.

Best for Healthy Snacks: Fit Snack

Fit Snack

Fit Snack

Price: $29.90
Customizable: No
Types of Diets: Gluten-free, keto, organic, vegan

Why We Chose It: In addition to featuring products that suit keto, vegan, and gluten-free diets, each Fit Snack Box contains nutritional tips and fitness inspiration.

What We Like
Each snack is selected by a nutritionist
Each box comes with additional fitness and nutrition tools
Donates snacks to kids in need with each purchase

What We Don’t Like
Fitness-inspired bonus items only included in 6-month or 1-year plans
No refunds on prepaid plans

Fit Snack is a monthly subscription service that not only ships out healthy snacks, but also adds fitness inspiration and nutritional tips to help support an active lifestyle. Boxes contain items like healthy chips, nutritious drinks, snack bars, granola, jerky, and exclusive workouts. Each box is guaranteed to have two or more snacks that are GMO-free, high in protein, low in sugar, gluten-free, organic, raw, vegan, or all-natural.

Fit Snack ships to the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia, and Israel and allows you to pause shipments if you take a vacation. However, it should also be noted that subscribers complained about being charged for subscriptions past their cancellation dates and we found the verbiage on the company’s site to be curt regarding cancellations.

Best for International Snacks: Universal Yums

Universal Yums

Universal Yums

Price: $27
Customizable: No
Types of Diets: No special diets

Why We Chose It: The company is a pioneer in international snacking with many countries showcased in its subscription boxes.

What We Like
Offers more countries to snack from
Allows you to purchase individual products from boxes
A good mix of sweet and savory snacks

What We Don’t Like
Unable to purchase past boxes
Shipping to territories outside the U.S. incurs additional charges

Universal Yums was created to give people a chance to explore the world's cuisine without leaving home. Its snacks span the globe: German Ketchup Potato Sticks, Russian Boiled Milk and Chocolate Cake, and Turkish Vanilla Tahini Halva have all been included in past boxes.

For your first shipment, choose between this month's or last month’s country, the size Yum Yum Box you want, and how often you want to receive it. Each subsequent box will be that month’s country. Boxes also include five additional snacks, a booklet with trivia and games, and recipes. Customers have the opportunity to vote on Best, 2nd Best, and Weirdest Snack in the boxes, which we found engaging.

Universal Yums ships to the U.S. (including military and territories), Canada, Australia, the UK, and Israel, though shipping to the latter five will incur shipping charges.

Best for Vegans: SnackSack

SnackSack

SnackSack

Price: $27.95
Customizable: No
Types of Diets: Vegan, classic, gluten-free

Why We Chose It: SnackSack is one of the most cost-efficient vegan snack subscriptions with an emphasis on all-natural snacks.

What We Like
They include coupons for snacks you may fall in love with
Full individual serving size products in each box
Free USPS shipping

What We Don’t Like
Snacks are a surprise
Website is lean on information

SnackSack delivers smarter snacking without artificial ingredients. It shares eats from unique, innovative companies whose mission is to provide their subscribers with wholesome snacks. Unique bites like popped water lily seeds, blueberry crumble energy balls, and organic chickpea puffs have been featured in past boxes. Snacks aren’t always quite snacks in these boxes, however, as some past boxes included breakfast oats and rice cauliflower.

Vegan Box subscriptions are available on a month-to-month, three-, six-, or 12-month basis. You’ll never know what’s coming in your box, but they do try to ship seasonally-themed snacks. Unlike other companies, SnackSack only ships 11-15 items in each box per month with no plans that allow for increasing or decreasing your snack amount which may be problematic for heavy snackers.

Reviews gush over how beautifully packaged the SnackSack boxes are, and ratings from current customers are through the roof. New customers, however, may find the site a bit frustrating. The FAQ section is pretty skimpy on information, and they only ship via USPS, so there are also no snacks for international folks at this time.

Best for Keto: My Keto Snack Box

My Keto Snack Box

My Keto Snack Box

Price: $40
Customizable: No
Types of Diets: Keto

Why We Chose It: My Keto Snack Box specializes in snacks that are keto-friendly with five grams of net carbs or less per serving.

What We Like
Ships only keto-friendly snacks
Flexible payment options
Free shipping in the U.S.

What We Don’t Like
No images of past boxes
No ability to customize boxes

My Keto Snack Box takes the frustration out of finding keto and low-carb snacks. It offers only one type of subscription, and that’s a keto-friendly, month-to-month plan. Each box includes eight to 12+ different snacks, all of which are less than five grams of net carbs per serving. Each shipment is sent on the 7th of the month with the option to cancel at any time.

Unlike most subscription box providers, there are no other monthly plan options, which is favorable if you’re leery of signing a contract or committing long-term. You will have to remember to cancel before your plan renews on the 21st of the month, though.

The company only provides detailed images on its social media channels and not on its website. Once there, though, you can get a better idea of the snacks included in each month’s box. It should also be noted that customers have complained about the lack of customization options for their monthly box.

Free shipping is offered in the U.S., but international subscribers will have to foot the bill on shipping charges themselves. The site itself doesn’t provide much in the way of box examples.

Best for Customizing: SnackMagic

SnackMagic

SnackMagic

Price: $45
Customizable: Yes
Types of Diets: Gluten-free, vegan, kosher, low-carb

Why We Chose It: This company allows you to fully customize your snack box. Choose from a curated box, or you can gift a surprise.

What We Like
Fully customizable options
Includes kosher options
Worldwide snack options

What We Don’t Like
International orders will incur an $18 fulfillment fee
Treats have an expiration date

SnackMagic is a truly customizable snack box service and the only one of its kind among the companies we reviewed. Customers can send treats to friends and family or to themselves. Recipients can follow the link from an email and select their snacks from pre-curated menus (or a la carte), with options to filter out snacks based on dietary needs or preferences. Any gifts not redeemed will be refunded to you and any overages are paid for at check-out by the recipient. Swag or customized boxes have additional features, both of which incur separate charges. If your recipient doesn’t redeem all of the treat budget, it is lost once the link expires.

Shipping is free within the U.S., but international orders are subject to a fulfillment fee. It's also important to note that because the company works in coordination with local snack suppliers, international recipients can only choose a “theme” for their box instead of individual items. Special requests on international orders are accepted, though the website states that they can’t always guarantee them.

Best on a Budget: Love With Food Tasting Box

Love with Food Tasting Box

Love with Food Tasting Box

Price: $19.95
Customizable: No
Types of Diets: Classic, gluten-free

Why We Chose It: Love With Food has the best box for the lowest price. In addition, with each purchase, a meal is donated to a family in need.

What We Like
Lowest priced plan
Each purchase pays for at least one meal for a family in need
Free shipping

What We Don’t Like
Not customizable
No FAQ section on the site

Love With Food is a snack subscription service that delivers a monthly box of healthy snacks directly to your home. Your purchase also gives back—with every snack box delivered, the company donates at least one meal to an American family in need through Feeding America.

Customers choose their preferred subscription, which is then charged on the first of every month. Boxes ship out 10 days after payment and include a variety of snacks. Past boxes have contained roasted garlic hummus, lemon olives, maple fudge, and buffalo chicken sticks. Love With Food also checks the gluten-free box with their “Gluten-Friendly” monthly box, though the site emphasizes that the box is not recommended for customers with celiac disease.

Some snackers may find that not all of their items are actual snacks. Items like tea, drinking chocolate, and spice rubs have shipped in past boxes. For us, that’s a bit of a letdown.

Final Verdict

Snacking is serious business, but you won’t go wrong with any of the companies we’ve featured on this list. Each offers variety in its own way, whether it's a new snack from Amsterdam shipped from Universal Yums or tasty vegan options curated for you by SnackSack.

Because Urth Box caters to a variety of diets and packs the most snacks for an affordable price, it came out on top, but we’d be happy to chow down on a snack box from any of the winners on this list.

Methodology

A few factors were considered when choosing the best snack subscription boxes. To determine the cost, we picked the middle range of each company’s one-time purchase of a monthly box. We also looked at the amount of information posted on the site to determine how well-informed customers will be before deciding on a specific plan. Any bonus products or perks were also considered, including things like nutritional tips, fitness programs, or recipes, and donations to worthy causes solidified spots for a few of our winners.
