Oh, holidays can be loaded, can’t they? What to make/get/do for Mom on Mother’s Day? What should we cook? Should we go out? These are common questions, and these recipes will help you answer them.
For me, Mother’s Day is bittersweet—my own mom passed away while I was pregnant, almost ten years ago. But now I am a mother of twin 9-year-old boys and every year I receive a sweet homemade card or gift, and we talk about my mom.
And like many people, we look to celebrate with food in some way, shape, or form.
Some of these dishes can be made ahead of time, such as the baked blueberry French toast or the Smoked Salmon Torta. This way, you can spend Sunday morning lazing about with your mom (or your kids!) and just pop it in the oven.
Other recipes are really well suited if you want to make something extra-special that requires a little more culinary finesse, such as the asparagus soufflé or crepes.
Get the kids involved for the pancakes—tiny hands can add blueberries to the batter! Or have them line up all the toasted slices of bread for the Mushroom Toast with Fried Egg. Making breakfast together can be just as special as eating it.
What will you be doing this Mother's Day?

How To Make French Crêpes
Sally Vargas Crepes only sound complicated—it’s all in the flick of the wrist and having a good nonstick skillet. Practice makes perfect. Fresh fruit makes it even better.
-
Smoked Salmon Potato Leek Torta

How to Make Eggs Benedict
Elise Bauer This only looks difficult. If you have a blender you can pull off the Hollandaise quite easily—and you can totally handle assembling the rest of the meal. Toast an English Muffin? Check! Make the bacon? Check! Poach an egg? Check!

Almond Flour Waffles
Sally Vargas Is your mom on a gluten-free diet? These almond flour waffles are allergy-friendly, and light and crispy.

Broccoli Cheddar Casserole
Elise Bauer There’s something about the combination of broccoli an cheddar that just works—it’s the combo of the slightly sweet broccoli with the sharp creamy cheddar. And the way the nooks and crannies of broccoli just soak up cheese.

Mushroom Toast with Fried Egg
Sheryl Julian Ah, everyone loves toast, right? Buy a fancy, crusty loaf, sauté the mushrooms ahead of time, and assemble the toasts with an egg made to order. A perfect brunch item, especially with a fresh spring salad served alongside.
