10 Weekend Baking Projects For a Lazy Afternoon

Are you a weekend baker? Do you want to be?! Here are 10 projects for a low-key afternoon of baking, from loaves of whole wheat bread to the best-ever homemade cinnamon rolls.

When planning my dinner menu for the week, the recipes I choose for must meet a few requirements. I ask myself these questions:

1. Can this dinner be ready in under 40 minutes?

2. Is it simple with minimal ingredients?

3. Will cleaning up afterward be fairly quick and easy?

If the answers are YES! to all of those, then I have a WINNER! Clearly, I have a recipe that fits all my requirements and it passes the Weeknight Dinner Litmus Test and I’ll put it on the menu.

However… on weekends, requirements go out the window. I’m ready to tackle a few baking projects that are a little more involved and could possibly use up every kitchen gadget I own. I put on my trusty apron, strap my baking boots, turn up the tunes, and I’m ready to go to work. #bringiton

Here are some of my favorite baking projects that were made for the weekend!

Bakery Style Cinnamon Roll

The dough in this recipe needs to be made over two days, which is why it’s a weekend winner. Make the dough late Friday, let it rise overnight, and complete these cinnamon rolls on Saturday. Trust me when I say you need these rolls in your life.

Perfect Cheesecake

There are so many methods out there for making cheesecake, but nothing compares to the creamy texture that is a result of baking your sweet cheesecake in a water bath. This is definitely a dessert that requires a little patience and a little TLC, but the end result is 100% worth it.

Whole wheat bread recipe

Making bread isn’t super difficult. In fact, it only takes about 20 minutes of hands on time, but letting the dough rise a couple of times and then actually baking the bread does take out a chunk of your day. With that said, it’s so worth it! The intoxicating aroma of homemade bread is one that’ll make you want to never leave your house again!

Vanilla Chocolate Marbled Bundt Cake

Wow. If you’re searching for a cake with rich flavor, search no more. Because there are a few different flavor profiles going on, you need to layer the different batters into the cake pan and swirl them together. Sounds complicated, but I promise it’s not!

How to Make Dump Cake from Scratch

Don’t be tempted to just dump canned ingredients into a pan and call it good. Do yourself a huge favor and spend a little more time on making this cake from scratch. It’s not overly sweet, but if you’re needing an extra dose of sweetness, top it with some homemade Vanilla Ice Cream!

Cheesecake bars with chocolate chips

Slowly cooling these bars is the key to preventing cracks. After they’ve been cooled, you’ll need to chill them for a few hours before you can partake of their gloriousness.

Holiday Pinwheel Cookies

These cookies are literally the cutest things in all the land. They’re not just for the holidays, you know. Color the dough for any occasion and BAM! You’ve got one festive cookie. These cookies do require a little bit of patience, but I have complete confidence that you’ll be able to conquer these cookies!

Lemon Meringue Pie

Repeat after me: GIVE THIS PIE A TRY! It’s a classic that everyone loves, but the thought of actually making it might overwhelm some. Have no fear! We break it down step-by-step so that your whole weekend can be filled with this magnificent pie.

How to Make Creme Brulee

This is a fancy dessert, served in the fanciest of places, to people dressed in fancy clothes. Okay, maybe not, but you’ll feel extra fancy once you master this at home! It has simple ingredients, but there’s a lot that goes on to make this dessert possible. Added bonus in making this Crème Brûlée? You get to use a torch.

Soft Frosted Sugar Cookies for Christmas

Quite possibly the softest cookies to ever exist. The dough needs to be chilled thoroughly and is the key component to making these cookies. It’s worth every second of waiting, trust me.
