The first week of July means my twins turn another year older. I cry, but they rejoice because they know their birthday week means Mom is making whatever they want.
I have no qualms about indulging my babies on their special day and I’m notorious for turning it into a week-long celebration revolving around food.
Many of this week’s recipes are an homage to their lives. Would you be so kind as to help me wish the Wonder Twins a happy 14th birthday?

Spicy Grilled Chicken Tacos
Sally Vargas Tacos reminds us of the years we spent living in El Paso. Because the twins’ birthday falls on a busy Monday this year, I’m choosing a meal that’s ready in less than thirty minutes.
-
Homemade Vanilla Cake
Cindy Rahe No birthday is complete without a cake, of course, but, even if you’re not celebrating a birthday today, this cake recipe is a great go-to dessert.

German Pork Burger
Elise Bauer The twins are our souvenir from our 6-year assignment in Germany. I’m glad I got them instead of a cuckoo clock, that’s for sure! Tonight I’m making burgers not only honor the country of their birth, but because my kids love these. I’m going to double the meat and make patties to freeze for later.

Sous Vide Beef Bulgogi Bowls
Nick Evans My husband spent a year of the twins’ lives living in South Korea. While he was away, I made it a point to bridge the gap between his (temporary) home and ours with meals he was eating over there. If you have a Korean supermarket in your town, head there and pick up store-bought kimchi. It will make this meal effortless.!

Fresh Salmon Salad
Elise Bauer Fish is worked into our weekly meals around here, and salmon usually gets top-billing. It is the twins’ favorite fish, and readily available where we live. I enjoy this even more the following day when I serve it in sandwich form on toasted rye.

Greens, Eggs, and Ham, Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Elise Bauer This dinner is not as juvenile as my kids’ favorite bedtime story. This sophisticated sandwich is the best way I know how to close out the twins’ birthday week. Gruyere the key to getting that gooey stretch when you pull apart this crisp sandwich. Make it vegetarian and leave out the ham!
