Simply Recipes 2019 Meal Plan: September Week 5

This week, please welcome Rachel Knecht and her meal plans! Rachel is a recipe tester here on Simply Recipes and the blogger behind Baking with Rachel.

Before diving in, we wanted to highlight the ultimate way to save time in your week: having your groceries delivered right to your door. Click on the red “Add to Shopping List” button at the bottom of any recipe (or meal plan) and check it out! We call this feature "Relish" and we’re into it because, really, dinner can be simpler.

By the end of the month, routines start to fall into place and life starts to feel normal again. We should all pat ourselves on the back!

Let’s enjoy the early autumn colors and celebrate the change of seasons. The meals I remember most are those shared with friends.

I often meet new acquaintances this time of year through school activities and kids sporting events. What better way to make new friends than to welcome them to the table? Not only do these meals taste great but you can also double them with little extra effort.

This week’s meals offer a variety of flavors that will be a sure hit for friends and family. Enjoy!

  • Chicken Gumbo with Andouille Sausage

New Orleans is calling your name with this one-pot meal. This Cajun-style gumbo is comfort food at its finest. Though you need a couple of hours to let this simmer on the stove, you will be rewarded with more than enough food to two days in a row. Serve over rice.

  • Slow-Roasted Salmon with Sweet Chili Glaze and Scallions

Are you as surprised as me to discover that slow-roasted salmon is on the table in less than 30-minutes? This is the perfect recipe for a party and can also be prepared in advance. Serve with Baby Bok Choy with Cashews.

  • Air Fryer Falafel

Falafel is always a huge hit at our house, and this recipe is just the ticket to a quicker, easier preparation. I also love that I can make the falafel and tahini sauce beforehand to make dinner even simpler. Serve with pitas and Orange Blossom Carrot Salad.

  • Quick Beef Stew with Mushrooms and White Beans

This is exactly what I start craving when the calendar switches from September to October. This recipe is “quick” because it uses the more tender top sirloin for the beef instead of a tough chuck roast. Brilliant! Serve with crusty bread and a simple green salad.

  • Turkey Sloppy Joes

Update your same old sloppy joes with this lean, veggie-heavy version. Using a food processor to pulse the vegetables keeps the texture consistent. I’m already hungry! Better yet, this recipe freezes well and also keeps in the refrigerator for most of the work week. Serve on buns with Classic Coleslaw.
