Introducing Simply Recipes Meal Plans with Gatheredtable

Hi everyone! For the last couple of months I’ve been working behind the scenes with Mary Egan, co-founder and CEO of Gatheredtable, a powerful, really easy-to-use menu planning service to create customized Simply Recipes meal plans. I’m honored to be Gatheredtable’s first food blog partner!

Mary’s team and I have been sifting through over 1500 recipes on Simply Recipes to find the ones that we think will work best together for nutritious, balanced meals. We’ve set it up so there’s a variety of meat, fish, and vegetarian dishes, and mains are paired with sides that work well with them.

The concept is simple. After you sign up, each Friday you get a menu of Simply Recipes meals for the coming week, including 4 nights of main dishes, and a dessert.

With the Gatheredtable app you can customize your weekly menu any which way you want. Move meals from one day to the next, add recipes from Gatheredtable, or clip recipes from anywhere on the Internet and add them to your menu.

Once you have the week’s menu you want, the app generates a shopping list. Check off what you already have, add more of what you might need, and head to the store! You can even email the list to someone else if you’re not the one doing the shopping.

When it comes time to cook, the full recipes are right there in the app.

One of the things I love about Mary is that she shares the same philosophy that I do when it comes to food—what we care about is helping people prepare wholesome meals at home.

Mary founded Gatheredtable to help make the whole process easier. According to her, “if you don’t plan, you don’t cook!” Or at least not as often you could.

Here’s the link:

There’s nifty video explaining how the service works. If you sign up for a trial, you’ll get 2 weeks of menus, free!

This is a big experiment for me and I would love your feedback. Please take it for a spin and let me know what you think. Recipes improve with suggestions and so do services like this!

p.s. A couple of you pointed out to me that I forgot to mention the price! It’s $10/month for a monthly subscription or $86 for an annual subscription.

    Hi Elise,
I love it so far, but was wondering if there is a way I can plan a week in advance. For example today is Tuesday and I’d like to plan for next week . I can only see a drop-down week window with one week selection at a time

  • Lori

We have been using this for the past week, and we looooove it! It takes the worst part of cooking (planning and making the grocery list) out of my life! We will definitely purchase the year subscription! Thank you for partnering as we can trust your recipes. All of my favorite recipes to cook are from your site.

    Hi Elise,

I am pretty excited you are partnering with a menu planning service and I am busy setting up next weeks menu.

Is the comment thread here the right place to send our suggestions? Because I already have a couple questions/suggestions about the service.

Specifically, when I go to add a recipe to a day of the week, I can’t search and find any of the recipes from simplyrecipes. The ones you pre-populated are in the schedule, but even they don’t show up when I search for them by name in the Gatheredtable collection.

Maybe this is by design, but it would be nice if we could have your collection be searchable on that site so we don’t need to manually clip recipes over one by one.

And while I am asking, it would be really awesome if we could populate an entire days menu by selecting a main dish and having coordinating sides appear automatically. I certainly trust your judgment on what recipes are good paired together, and that would make things just that much easier for me.

    Thanks Elise!

Sounds like a great idea for those who are unable to plan a weekly menu and have extra disposable income. I myself am not in need of this service. That being said, for those of you out there that meet those two criteria, Simply Recipes has a ton of great recipes. I have tried many over the years and have enjoyed them all. Good luck with your latest endeavor. Keep sending out those amazing recipes, I look forward to them!

I’ve been using Gatheredtable for almost a year now and I LOVE IT. I’m also super glad to see more recipes being added by you (so I don’t have to clip them!). What do I love about Gatheredtable? Well being more specific than “everything”…I love that I can add my own recipes, that I can quickly move a menu plan from one day to another when plans change, that I can add miscellaneous stuff to my grocery list that might not be an ingredient in a recipe, that I can “see” that I’ve created a balanced menu for the week, that my grocery list can be edited to delete the stuff I already have on hand, that I can search for recipes with ingredients that are in my freezer or pantry, and, well I’m sure theres more! Super glad you have partnered up!
