Hi Elise, I prepared this week end your smoothie. It was delicious though my blender is not as powerful as a Witamix and took me a lot to blender the whole thing. I used Golden Syrup instead of dates and almonds instead of cashews. You can have a look at the pictures in my cook blog if you want thought it’s written in Spanish: http://lacocineranovata.blogspot.com/2018/08/smoothie-vegano-de-tarta-de-manzana-y.html
Thank you for sharing.
Your smoothie looks great Mayte! So happy those substitutions worked well for you.
Hi Elise, I am thinking about doing this smoothie this week end but I have a question: do you put the ice cubes in the blender together with the rest of ingredients? Thank you for your answer.
Hi Mayte, yes, put the ice cubes in the blender with everything else. Enjoy!
add two shots of coconut rum, BOOM.
Woah! My son would go crazy for this. We are on a morning smoothie kick – such an easy breakfast for the three of us. The kids even take theirs in a mason jar to-go!
I never thought about using cashews in a smoothie, could you use almonds instead? It sounds energy packed, awesome post running with all the carbs :)
Yes, you can use almonds, though I would use blanched almonds, removed of their slightly bitter skins, and soak them first.
This is the bomb.com I love to have it after my workouts
Yumm! This is good :) I just tried the maple syrup version and I really liked it! Next time I’ll try macadamia nuts though, since I like them better than cashews. Oh, and I added some vanilla ice cream :)
This recipe sounded delicious. I followed the recipe although without soaking the dates prior to adding them to my blender. My husband and I both found the taste to be unappealing with no apple pie flavor but sort of an earthy quality.
I’ll stick to making the berry smoothies.
Sounds divine… I am allergic to cashews however. Would almonds suffice? Any other suggestions?
Hi Lisa, it might work. If you use almonds, use the blanched kind. The skins can be rather bitter.
Lisa – yes, as Elise said, blanched almonds work really well in this smoothie. Whole almonds make it too gritty. Raw, unsalted macadamias also work really well. Enjoy
This smoothie sounds delicious! We have nut allergies so I’m going to substitute sunflower seeds for the cashews and rice milk for the almond milk. I’m hoping for similar results.
Thank you for sharing! :)
Hi Elizabeth, oh, that sounds good! Please let us know how it turns out for you.
Elizabeth – hemp seeds work really well in this smoothie with soy or rice milk. Yes please share what you did. It is so helpful for the food allergic community. Thanks!
Oh, Elise, thankyou for that lovely post about me, and book, and the recipe. I hadn’t seen that photo at our pie making class. Oh, what an amazing, magical day that was….You are just the best. Love to you and your beautiful dad. You know I have a soft spot for him…..and you. xxxx
I hadn’t seen that photo either, Tess. What a wonderful pie class it was. And, this Apple Pie Smoothie is definitely a winner!
