I, like others, mostly followed the recipe but tweaked it a bit. I used imitation bacon bits, which I think made it too salty so I added more water and some corn starch and it’s excellent. I also added a few drops of liquid smoke and left out thyme. I didn’t add celery either. I did use knorr vegetable seasoning and gora ham flavor. I caution you to hold off on salt but this tastes better than the Campbell’s original, which is what I was trying to replicate.
Followed recipe exactly except (I hate when people do this but…) didn’t have celery substituted cauliflower just because I had some and added celery seed and whole can of paste but think we are ready to put Campbell’s soup out of business I also had to add more water as I let it go while cleaning out the fridge
Look out Campbell’s! Way to go, Missy!
Used pork stock, and added about a cup of ham. Super tasty! Thanks for the recipe!
This was so good! I had boiled the Easter ham bone and used the stock for 4 of the 6 cups of broth! No waste, and a delicious soup! Great recipe!
Great soup. I used navy beans instead of northern because that’s what I had in the house and I added sprigs of parsley into the soup for last half hour of cooking
I’ve made this at least six times and enjoy it every time. I am true to the recipe except I add more bacon . Also, I have used four cans of low sodium white beans when I can’t find dry, and just rinse them and add them to the recipe. Thanks !
Even better the next day! Made enough for 5 adult servings. Added more bacon and started this in the cook pot. Terrific
My husband said it is the best “bean of any kind” of soup he has had. I am inclined to agree. It was excellent. Thank you.
Absolutely fantastic! Leftovers are great for breakfast on cold mornings!
I made this today and it is the perfect comfort soup. I used half the bacon since I am “undoing” the holidays. Thanks Simply Recipes!
This is a great recipe. Best soup I have ever made. My favourite soup was split pea and ham. Now it is this Bean and Bacon Soup. Wonderful! Made it exactly as shown.
Followed to a T minus celery as I was out. Softened the beans for 10 min in instantpot. Cooked soup according to this recipe. Great flavour. Will make again as this was super easy and tasty.
What other types of beans could be used, because a family member won’t eat navy beans?
Hi, Carol! Butter Beans or Cannellini Beans would also work with this recipe.
Great northern beans too
Made this in the Instant Pot and it was wonderful!! Used the sauté function for the veggies. Then added DRY navy beans, spices and the stock. Cooked on manual for 30 minutes with a 20 minute natural release. Then added tomato paste and paprika. Mashed it with a potato masher and it was just delicious!
Sooo good!! Made a couple of changes…added a ham bone, a 14 oz can of diced tomatoes, smoked paprika and a few splashes of red wine vinegar at the end.
I’m so glad you liked it Louann!
Easy and delicious! Only change I made was adding more carrots and celery….. I like lots of vegetables.
I made this 100% vegan, simple swaps with no chicken chicken soup base (vegan), and 2 packs of tempeh. I used a little bit of smoked paprika and mesquite liquid smoke… great recipe, loved making it all vegan, it really is delicious!!!!
It was wonderful. My son even got seconds. He doesn’t always like soups.
Recipe is awesome, added a roux based cheese sauce to give it a little change of profile
