Fantastic. Flavorful and hearty. I normally will seriously modify recipes, not this one. Great just as it is.
It was perfect. Juicy , flavorful and helds its shape really well!
Great Kelly, I’m so glad you liked the meatloaf!
Best Meatloaf EVER!!!!
Lovely meatloaf. I was stuck for time and cooked vegetables in microwave with no fat for 6 minutes. There was still great flavor from it.
Made it with tomato sauce instead of ketchup and it made a big difference. Much better
I love this recipe. No longer do I have to search for a good meatloaf recipe, this is the best. I have used turkey italian sausage and get the same great flavor.
Hi Donna, I’m so glad you like the meatloaf! Italian turkey sausage would work great it in.
Really was the best meatloaf I have had. Followed the recipe exactly. everything worked out really well.
This was really delicious. Followed recipe with the exception that I only had ground beef and ground pork and used sugar free bbq sauce in place of ketchup for additional flavor. The cooking of the veggies is genius. This was my favorite meatloaf. Thanks!!!
I use ground turkey and sub tomato sauce instead of ketchup. Use 1/2 cup bread crumbs and one egg. Turkey must reach 160 degree(70 degree C). AMAZING!!!!!
Made it with fed beef only since that was all I had. Best meatloaf ever.
I usually have to triple this recipe, so good! My family loves it.
On the recommendation of a food scientist friend, I used 3/4 pounds each of hamburger and ground veal with the 3/4 pound of Italian sausage. It made it smoother and lighter and more elegant in taste and texture. I probably won’t use the expensive veal every time I make this — the veal was on sale and your version is so very delicious — but, for an extra treat now and then, the three-way split is unparalleled.
Delicious!! My family and grandson loved it. There wasn’t enough left over. I’ll be using this recipe again!
Great my family loves it I use, mild sausage my daughter uses spicy either way it’s delicious. I was wondering if I swapped the bread crumbs for rice would it work for stuffed bells if so how long would I cook them
Hi, Shelly! I’m Summer, an editor here at Simply Recipes. I don’t know why you couldn’t use it for stuffed bell peppers. However, we’ve never made it that way so I couldn’t tell you how to adjust the cooking time. You want the center of the stuffed pepper to reach 160F. If you try it as a bell pepper filling let us know how it turns out!
Meh. The italian sausage ruins what should be “classic” meatloaf. The recipe calls for 3/4 of a pound it the sausage, but it’s overpowering and it’s like eating sausage-loaf rather than meatloaf. I regret trying this recipe. It shouldn’t be called “classic” when you’re adding something not in a typical recipe.
Hi Rollie. I’m sorry you felt that way. I wonder if perhaps the sausage you used was rather assertive in its flavors?
Oh dear, someone had a bad day
This is the best meatloaf I’ve ever had! I’ve never been a big fan of meatloaf. It’s literally been years since I last made one and remember having to slather it in ketchup to make it taste good. This one was so flavorful and the ketchup spread across the top before baking was the perfect amount. Served it with mashed potatoes & corn.
I love great meatloaf and have tried many over the years and they were never quite right. This is the best, I follow the recipe as printed, EXCEPT I now use Hot Italian Sausage (personal preference). The sandwiches the next day are fabulous.
Wondering….do you think this would make a good base for hamburgers on the bbq. Already know I love the baked version
Hi, Lh! It’s worth a shot. I would probably leave out the breadcrumbs and the eggs if making burgers on the grill, but everything else should work great! Let us know if you try it and how it turns out!
Very delicious meat loaf. I have made it many times. Today I am making it with baked potatoes & roasted cauliflower. There are only two of us so there is plenty for leftovers. When I have leftovers, I brown up each slice on both sides. Very yummy that way. I also do that for my meatloaf sandwiches.
