Recipe calls for 5 Tablespoons of applesauce. Plain coconut recipe (which is great) calls for 5 teaspoons of applesauce. Is this correct?
Wow, you have done your research! Thanks for your question.
These have cocoa powder (which absorbs liquid), while the original plain coconut macaroons on the site do not. So that accounts for the difference in applesauce amounts in the two recipes. Did you make these? Did they turn out for you with the 5 tablespoons of applesauce?
Can the sugar be substituted with honey?
Hi Katelyn, I wish I could give you a good answer but I just can’t say since I haven’t tried it using honey. My first instinct would be to sub a portion of honey for the sugar and see if you like the results.
Is there a vegan option
Hi, Amanda! Emma here, managing editor. No, we do not have a vegan option at this time. Sorry!
I have sweetened coconut on hand, any chance that will work for this recipe if I reduce sugar?
I’m not sure that will work since the sugar in the recipe is needed for structure and I haven’t tested it with sweetened coconut. Sorry I can’t be of more help here!
Can you please tell us how long they will keep?
Hi, Bobbi! They will keep about 5 days in an air tight container at room temp. Enjoy!
I didn’t had applesauce and replaced it with the equivalent of smashed bananas… it was great! :) Will have to try the original recipe sometime, thanks for the inspiration! ;)
So glad you tried them, John! Love that the mashed banana worked out!
