Easy Buttered Noodles

Easy buttered egg noodles with grated Parmesan cheese, parsley, and plenty of butter!

  • Prep time: 10 minutes
  • Cook time: 8 minutes
  • Yield: Serves 4


  • 1/2 pound egg noodles
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 2 Tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 Tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • Salt and pepper to taste


1 Cook the noodles: Heat 2 quarts of water with 1 Tbsp kosher salt in a large pot on high heat until boiling. Add the egg noodles. Cook for 5 minutes. Reserve 1/4 cup of the pasta cooking liquid and drain the noodles.

2 Add butter, cheese, parsley: Place the drained hot noodles in a large bowl. Add the butter and Parmesan and stir until the butter has melted. Stir in a tablespoon or two of the pasta cooking water. Stir in the chopped parsley. Add salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.

    I love buttered noodles, but it will taste better if you take a cast iron frying pan and melt the butter in it, then take and pour in some itialan style bread crumbs and brown them, then add the noodles and toss together

    We love buttered noodles. I usually fry some bacon, press it on paper towels, chop it finely, add quite a bit more Parmesan cheese. Toss all together. It is still my kids favorite meal… and they are in their thirties.

    My grandmother would make something like this but she’d cut plain sandwich bread into little pieces and fry that in the butter until crispy before tossing it into the noodles. That little extra dimension made it twice as good!

    We love buttered noodle also and sometimes I will add minced garlic in the jar to it. Family loves it this way also. I have also added Italian seasoning along with butter and garlic..I never use anything but real butter in my cooking.

    I confess. I’ve never made buttered noodles before! Not even sure I’ve ever eaten them before… Nonetheless, was won over by both your comments and the pictures, so I’m going to try it next week for Rosh Ha’Shana.
    One question, though – if there are any leftovers, will they keep in the fridge till the next day?

      Hi Arlene, they’ll keep for several days in the fridge. I just reheat them in the microwave.
