Grasshopper Cocktail

You will have to pick up two somewhat esoteric, though easily found, liqueurs. Crème de menthe is a bright green liqueur with a powerful mint flavor. The other is white crème de cacao, which is a clear, chocolate-flavored liqueur that was wildly popular in the nineties for chocolate martinis and Brandy Alexanders.

  • Prep time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 1 cocktail

  • 1 ounce crème de menthe
  • 1 ounce white crème de cacao
  • 2 ounces heavy cream
  • Ice

Special equipment:

1 Shake: Place the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake well for about 10 seconds.

2 Strain: Strain the cocktail into a chilled coupe or martini glass. Serve immediately.

I love your story. It’s perfect! You have such away of detailing the ambience, I felt like I was there. You are right about the Grasshopper, Grasshopper. Excellent drink, even in hot summers, in my opinion. Thank you for sharing the recipe.

I may have to make this for Christmas! I’m 70 now and remember drinking these and Brandy Alexanders in the early eighties! So delicious!

I specifically bought both Creme de Cacao and Creme de Menthe to make this beautiful looking cocktail. Now I have the recipe. Thank you

Hooray! I also recommend a Brandy Alexander or adding a tiny splash of the cacao to your favorite whiskey or apple brandy.
