I made singles, to be honest it was pretty fun flattening the patties. Topped with cheese, fancy sauce, bacon and sautéed onions :) I’m not usually a burger person and I ate two.

So good. my only question is how to do it without making my smoke alarm go off.

Hi, Sue! I’m glad to hear this recipe was a hit! My only suggestion for the smoke alarm concern would be to turn down the heat a bit! You’ll still get a good char!

Great advice to weigh the meat to get even portions – I can’t wait to try the double patty version.
For a change up on the burger secret sauce, try dijon mustard in place of ketchup and add that to mayo and sweet pickle relish. It’s the way they served us burgers in elementary school (a million years ago) and it is delicious.

You inspired me, Nick. Seeing your gorgeous photo, I just had to make a cheeseburger last night! I didn’t have any buns, so I went to the King Arthur Flour web site, and used their Beautiful Burger Bun recipe. Excellent recipe and pretty easy to make within a couple of hours. Your cook times were perfect and we both enjoyed the most delicious medium rare burger that I have had for a long time. Thank you for the idea and the timings!

These were so delicious!!!! My husband really like them. The only thing I did different was add onion powder and I flattened my patties out before hand instead of in the skillet. But definitely will be making again!!!

I can’t wait to make these. One question….What if I don’t own a cast iron skillet? Can I use something else? Or is that a deal breaker?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Jess,
Good question! You can cook these in a regular skillet, yes, but you likely will not get such a nice crust on the burger (especially if the skillet is nonstick). However, I don’t think it’s a dealbreaker. In the end, you’ll have cooked hamburger patties covered in melted cheese, and few would turn their noses up at that.
So good! Best burgers ever!
