Summer has 20 years of publishing experience working in media across all of its platforms: magazine, newspaper, and digital. Summer has spent the last 12 years working exclusively in food media where she has worked as a recipe developer, recipe tester, food journalist, essayist, cookbook author, and public speaker. Her work has appeared in Eating Well,Saveur, Bon Appétit, Grit and Edible Communities publications among others. She started working with Simply Recipes in 2017 where she has worked as a recipe tester, developer, associate editor and senior editor for the organization.
She has won multiple awards for feature writing and social media campaigns throughout her career. Her book, New Prairie Kitchen, won the Nebraska Book Award for non-fiction in 2016 and Epicurious noted it as a “Need to Read” cookbook.
Her one piece of cooking advice is to relax and give yourself a break. Dinner doesn't have to Pinterest worthy; it can just be dinner. She also loves the French Cooking channel on Pandora: "It makes me feel like I'm at a bistro on a spring day even when I'm up to my neck in dishes."
